There are so many ways to adorn a hat.  You can use the purpose or hand-made millinery trims, sew-ons, or even pop a buckle onto a hat band.  Hat pins were used to hold hats in place as well as to add decoration and individuality. Sometimes a nice brooch or pin will add decoration if that is all you need.
