1960s - 1970s Modernist Brooch by Sarah Coventry - Silver tone Open Circle (SOLD)
This is a classic silver tone vintage brooch by Sarah Coventry. This pin has an open work circular modern design. The open sections make this brooch look really smart on all colours of fabric and this means it will match your red woollen jacket, your black Crombie coat or your camel Burberry Mac! This vintage brooch represents the designs of its era so well; it is essentially a late 1960s to early 1970's jewel. It is a flower really but it looks so "space age" and so very modern. It also has nicely textured surfaces to add to its interest. It has been constructed by layering 5 separate circular abstract flowers upon one another. It finishes on top with a simple eight lined "flower" and this gives the brooch a super 3D effect. This brooch is good quality and is in excellent order. The Brooch fastens with a secure roll-over type clasp is just 2 inches in diameter about half an inch high and has the Sarah Cov copyright mark in block capital letters. Sarah Coventry jewellery was named after -Sarah- the granddaughter of Charles H. Stuart, the founder of the company and the place they originally came from being Coventry. It was established in the USA in 1949 and is recognized as the oldest direct selling jewelry company in the world. Most of their jewellery was produced in the USA but they also worked in Canada.
The company introduced jewellery to the UK in 'Party Plan' sales a bit like the classic Tupperware approach. You can just imagine how exciting it would have been back in the 1960's to get dressed up and go along to see all the lovely costume jewellery and choose a treasure to buy and wear. As far as I can establish the Sarah Coventry Company continued to run the Party Plan jewellery sales until the 1970's.
