SOLD 1960's Vintage Brooch signed Sarah Coventry - Golden Sunflower
This vintage brooch is classic design from the Sarah Coventry jewellery company's Canadian factory. This brooch has a gorgeous design which consists of gold fern like petals around a central brown glass jewel. The metal is a goldtone finish and it is textured and detailed giving a great richness to this vintage pin. The brown glass jewel in the centre has a bobbled finish with subtle flashes of gold decorating the high points of the jewel. The jewel has fourteen individual claws holding it in place and it would have been set by hand. Years ago costume jewellery was made with the kind of care afforded only to precious metals and diamonds today. Measuring about 2 inches in diameter the brooch has a nicely domed effect so it really sits beautifully on a lapel. The brooch fastens with a pin and secure roll over type clasp and is in very good condition. This vintage Sarah Coventry Brooch bears the full signature and has all the style you would expect from the mid to late 1960's when it was made. Sarah Coventry jewellery was named after - Sarah- the granddaughter of Charles H. Stuart, the founder of the Company and the place the family originally came from - Coventry. It was established in the USA in 1949 and is recognized as the oldest direct selling jewelry company in the world. Most of their jewellery was produced in the USA but they also worked in Canada.
The company introduced jewellery to the UK in 'Party Plan' sales a bit like the classic Tupperware approach. You can just imagine how exciting it would have been back in the 1960's to get dressed up and go along to see all the lovely costume jewellery and choose a treasure to buy and wear. As far as I can establish the Sarah Coventry Company continued to run the Party Plan jewellery sales until the 1970's.
