Pearl Brooch Silvery Sunburst by Sarah Coventry 1960's - 1970's
Here we have a superb vintage Brooch signed - Sarah Coventry. The 1960s to 70s era brooch consists of a 'Catherine Wheel' type arrangement in a silvertone finish around a large, bright, silver white simulated pearl centre. The metal work has a smooth and rope effect to the front and a brushed effect on the reverse of each piece. The Brooch, which fastens with a secure roll-over type clasp is approximately 6 cms in diameter and is in mint condition. This vintage Sarah Coventry Brooch bears the full signature and has all the style you would expect from the mid to late 1960's when it was made. Sarah Coventry jewellery was named after -Sarah- the granddaughter of Charles H. Stuart, the founder of the company and Coventry the place they originated from. It was established in the USA in 1949 and is recognized as the oldest direct selling jewelry company in the world. Most of their jewellery was produced in the USA but they also worked in Canada. The company introduced jewellery to the UK in 'Party Plan' sales a bit like the classic Tupperware approach. You can just imagine how exciting it would have been back in the 1960's to get dressed up and go along to see all the lovely costume jewellery and choose a treasure to buy and wear. As far as I can establish the Sarah Coventry Company continued to run the Party Plan jewellery sales until the 1970's. An Idea.........A beautiful old brooch or dress clip can be used to add a finishing touch to your bridal outfit. A vintage brooch or a lovely art deco dress clip can be added to a dress, hat, hair band, handbag or be used in other ways. Why not place a sparkling diamante brooch or a creamy pearl pin on a ribbon to decorate your wedding cake? If you have many tiers you could choose a different one for each layer and then gift them to your bridesmaids, mum, mother in law or special guests. Your florist can usually add a brooch to your bouquet and your hairdresser will often incorporate your vintage brooch or dress clip into your hair or your bridesmaids' hairdo.
