Woodland Butterfly Fairy Brooch by Lea Stein of Paris - this one has a red sparkly frock! (SOLD)

This delightful Fairy brooch is the work of Lea Stein of Paris and is a contemporary design introduced in the last few years. Standing on her tip toes she appears to be whispering a secret to you! The butterfly wing fairy on offer here has a red sparkly dress. She has been made of layers of laminated cellulose acetate with real fishnet lace in a brown shade used to decorate the butterfly style wings. These wings are superb with the netting dotted with a solitary red and four large silver spots. Her black bobbed hairdo is reminiscent of a 1920's Flapper girl whilst her creamy flesh has a realistic lined effect which has the appearance of ivory. Standing a little over 3 inches tall this Fairy brooch will delight you! I also have her 'sister' with Dragonfly shaped wings so do take a look. Back to this brooch...to the reverse it has a white metal pin bearing the 'Lea Stein, Paris' mark and it fastens with a roll over type clasp. Lea Stein is welll known for her vintage brooches and vintage jewellery and this is her story...

LEA STEIN was born in Paris in 1931 and worked as a dress designer. She began making her now famous Jewellery when her husband, Fernand Steinberger, ( a Plastics Chemist ) discovered a process of laminating cellulose acetate to create a unique range of colours & patterns.

Buttons for her frocks were their first products; followed by brooches, bangles and earrings. The factory was forced to close in the 1980’s but has since re-opened much to the relief of costume jewellery collectors and Lea Stein fans. Lea Stein loves to produce designs based on animals and flowers. Now she is quite an elderly lady but still introduces a couple of new designs each year.

Each brooch has the trademark ‘V’ shaped pin on the back and is signed: ‘LEA STEIN PARIS’. The manufacturing process used means that no two pieces are exactly alike. The fabulous designs, the ease of wearing and their quirky appeal are just some of the reasons why they are so collected around the world today.
