Swift or Swallow Brooch Signed Lea Stein Paris - Designer Signed Bird brooch

Soft feminine pink and bright apple green colours make this Lea Stein Bird Brooch a real winner. The body and tail of the Swallow or Swift is in shiny bubblegum pink with the wings are in green.  The head is a classic Lea Stein ball reminiscent of her early work in beads where lots of coloured layers are used.  This is a great example with white, black, yellow, red, brown, green and pink colours. There is a sentiment with any brooch depicting Swallows or Swifts - it is  'I will return'.   Made of Rhodoid or Cellulose Acetate this bird brooch is extremely light and easy to wear on any fabric.   The brooch has the standard silver tone back plate bearing Lea Stein's signature mark.  The reverse laminates are pearlised  like the body and wings in green, pink and white. Measuring  a little over 3 inches long and three quarters of an inch in width, it fastens securely with a pin and roll over type clasp.  This brooch by Lea Stein is a real winner and would be lovely to own or gift.

 

LEA STEIN  was born in Paris in 1931 and worked as a dress designer. She began making her now famous Jewellery when her  husband, Fernand Steinberger, ( a Plastics Chemist ) discovered a process of laminating cellulose acetate to create a unique range of colours & patterns.
Buttons for her frocks were their first products; followed by brooches, bangles and earrings. The factory was forced to close in the 1980’s but has since re-opened much to the relief of costume jewellery collectors and Lea Stein fans. Lea Stein loves to produce designs based on animals and flowers. Now she is quite an elderly lady but still introduces a couple of new designs each year.
Each brooch has the trademark ‘V’ shaped pin on the back and is signed: ‘LEA STEIN PARIS’. The manufacturing process used means that no two pieces are exactly alike. The fabulous designs, the ease of wearing and their quirky appeal are just some of the reasons why they are so collected around the world today.
