SOLD Lea Stein Paris - Retro Green Eyed Cat Brooch - Liberty Floral Prints

Here is a groovy cat brooch in an all over flower print. This is a rarer vintage find from the Parisian jewellery designer, Lea Stein. Her Gomina Cat Brooch has long been a favourite design and here it is in a Fab Retro Flower pattern that is most likely a Liberty Print as these fabrics were used by Lea in her work. A clever technique encapsulating fine fabrics within the layers of celluloid acetate. With mixed flowers in shades of pink and purple and green leaves on a beige and cream ground this cat pin is super pretty and very feminine. The eyes and ears on this cat brooch are in contrasting green - I rarely find Les Stein with green eyes and that’s perfect for a cat of course! . Measuring almost 3 inches by 1.75 inches this pin will cheer up any outfit. On the reverse, this brooch is equally gorgeous with a zig zag red, green, and burgundy pattern; some collectors love it when the reverse of Lea’s brooches are as colourful and interesting as the fronts. This collectable retro style brooch has the wishbone shaped white metal pin with roll over 'c' clasp bearing the 'Lea Stein Paris' mark. Lea Stein's brooches always sit beautifully and the lightness of the plastics ensure they are suitable for your lighter fabrics like linen but they are equally at home on the lapel of a heavy winter coat. This vintage style brooch is a contemporary design from Lea Stein who is famed for her jewellery, particularly her animal designs which have featured cats, foxes, dogs, birds and many other things over her history. Here is a little more information about Lea Stein and her fabulous and whimsical jewellery.....

LEA STEIN was born in Paris in 1931 and worked as a dress designer. She began making her now famous Jewellery when her husband, Fernand Steinberger, ( a Plastics Chemist ) discovered a process of laminating cellulose acetate to create a unique range of colours & patterns.

Buttons for her frocks were their first products; followed by brooches, bangles and earrings. The factory was forced to close in the 1980’s but has since re-opened much to the relief of costume jewellery collectors and Lea Stein fans. Lea Stein loves to produce designs based on animals and flowers. Now she is quite an elderly lady but still introduces a couple of new designs each year.

Each brooch has the trademark ‘V’ shaped pin on the back and is signed: ‘LEA STEIN PARIS’. The manufacturing process used means that no two pieces are exactly alike. The fabulous designs, the ease of wearing and their quirky appeal are just some of the reasons why they are so collected around the world
