Lea Stein Terrier Dog - Rare Kimdoo the Terrier in Patriotic Union Jack Flag Jacket SOLD
Lea Stein of Paris produced this fabulous example of Kimdoo the terrier dog in patriotic Red, White and Blue Union Jack Flag Jacket for the special 2012 Royal Golden Jubilee and London 2012 Olympics and now it is seriously sought after! How interesting that I am adding this pin to bagthejewels.co.uk on 23rd July 2013 - the day after William and Kate's precious new royal baby was born! It is a time to celebrate and wave the Union Jack flag again and this Lea Stein Dog Brooch certainly does that. I suppose it is a little ironic that the brooch will have been hand created in Paris, France but that just ensures that it is the top quality Lea Stein jewellery that is known, loved and collected the world over! The appealing terrier dog is in a marbled white finish with a black eye and nose. This terrier dog's coat is made up of 3 sections of flags a super idea by his creator Lea Stein of Paris. Kimdoo the terrier pin is made of Rhodoid, a type of early plastic, so is light and easy to wear. This contemporary brooch is in excellent order. On the reverse, this brooch is plain white in colour with just an edge of black where the jacket overlaps, it is layered, like most of Lea Stein's brooches. The brooch has the classic 'Lea Stein Paris' signature on its white metal pin, which fastens with a secure roll over type clasp. This dog brooch measures 3 inches by 2 inches at its widest points.
Some information about the designer.......LEA STEIN was born in Paris in 1931 and worked as a dress designer. She began making her now famous Jewellery when her husband, Fernand Steinberger, ( a Plastics Chemist ) discovered a process of laminating cellulose acetate to create a unique range of colours & patterns.
Buttons for her frocks were their first products; followed by brooches, bangles and earrings. The factory was forced to close in the 1980’s but has since re-opened much to the relief of costume jewellery collectors and Lea Stein fans. Lea Stein loves to produce designs based on animals and flowers. Now she is quite an elderly lady but still introduces a couple of new designs each year.
Each brooch has the trademark ‘V’ shaped pin on the back and is signed: ‘LEA STEIN PARIS’. The manufacturing process used means that no two pieces are exactly alike. The fabulous designs, the ease of wearing and their quirky appeal are just some of the reasons why they are so collected around the world today.
