Carved Horn Bird Brooch - French Seagull Pin -1930s -1940s

Bird brooches are popular and hand carved ones especially so as they are unique - there will only be the one exactly like this. This appealing vintage Seagull Pin is made of natural horn in tones of golden light honey with brown wing and tail tips and yellow beak and feet. It is a large size having a wing span of 3.25 inches, width of 1 inch and a thickness of quarter of an inch.  The wings have curved indents along them and slash carved decoration. The body is nicely shaped to make it look like a bird in flight with one black eye picked out on the head. Fastening with a white metal aluminium pin secured with a trombone clasp to guard the pin, this brooch is offered in very good condition.This brooch is from the period circa late 1930s to 1940s.  

This distinctive hand carved natural horn Gull  brooch is from France where the carving of horn for jewellery and hair ornaments and hair combs has been a tradition. The natural lightness and strength of horn make it an excellent material for brooches.
