BABY Victorian to Early 20th Century Baby Brooch - Sterling Silver with Rose Gold

An English  'Baby' pin of the best quality with fine details; this antique brooch benefits from the lettering being applied to the Sterling silver in 9ct rose gold.  The brooch itself bears the Birmingham hallmark but the assay mark is partial but sadly not readable. It consists of the lion passant with the partial date letter and a partial part of the anchor to show that this lovely antique brooch was hallmarked in Birmingham.  The makers' mark is actually nice and clear and it is 'J G & Co.’  This antique brooch is definitely  over a 100 years old and is in superb condition.  The pin part is steel and it slips into a thick end closure that it just guards the pin point.  In the past these brooches were pinned onto the gowns of tiny babies and were the kind of jewelry often gifted and worn for Christenings.  With antique silver jewellery getting more sought after this is a true gem!  With a interesting shape this brooch has an engraved pattern on the top surface surrounding the gold ‘BABY’ letters and then the design has further applied silver engraved curves to each end as extra decoration and finally there is a fluted pattern around the outside .  These early name and baby brooches make great contemporary gifts and they also look well on the gowns of 19th Century dolls so would appeal to doll collectors too.
