1950s Vintage Necklace in rare colour-change Neodymium Glass Crystal - Lilac to Aquamarine
This is a rare find indeed being a vintage costume jewellery necklace where the larger navette or marquise shaped jewels are made from the collectible colour-changing glass Neodymium. I was lucky to purchase two different necklaces of this kind from a glass collector- both are on my website. This means that the necklace takes on a completely different personality in different lights! In daylight the jewels are pale mauve but under fluorescent light they change quickly to an Aquamarine blue. If you contrast the first photo of the necklace on my life-sized model with the last photo of the necklace in a room with fluorescent light you will see what a change there is. This happens quickly and dramatically and would certainly be a fun talking point. In this gorgeous necklace the Neodymium is used in the central glass crystal detail as a stylised flower with three drops from it, this detail is set on top of a line of further Neodymium navette shaped jewels and then the remaining gems are all round cut jewels in contrasting Lilac crystal. All the jewels are claw set and also have a cupped setting in a Rhodium plated metal. With the look of the romantic Victorian era this piece of jewellery is from the 1950's and is what is known as 'Victorian Revival'. Measuring a little over 15 inches in length the necklace has a flip over type clasp supported by a fine silver tone safety chain. This necklace is in good order with the claw-set stones all twinkly and bright.
