1940s Vintage Necklace in rare colour-change Neodymium Glass Crystal - Lilac to Aquamarine
This is a rare find ( I was lucky to purchase two necklaces from a glass collector- both are on my website ). This a vintage costume jewellery necklace where all of the larger oval jewels are made from the collectible colour-changing glass Neodymium. This means that the necklace takes on a completely different personality in different lights! In daylight these oval jewels are pale mauve but under fluorescent light they change to a pale Aquamarine blue. It has been hard to capture in the photos. This happens quickly and dramatically and would certainly be a fun talking point. In this gorgeous necklace the Neodymium is used in the oval glass crystals only where it contrasts beautifully with the pale and darker purple jewels in the design. You can see it is a late 1940s necklace because of the use of two groups of baguette shaped jewels as detailed decorative points on each side to the front. All the jewels are claw set and also have a cupped setting in a Rhodium plated metal. With the influence of the Art Deco era this piece of jewellery is striking. It is a small size, just a little over 14 inches in length, but as the necklace has a bolt ring type clasp, it could be easily lengthened with a chain extender and I could add one if asked at the time of purchase. This necklace is in good order with the claw-set stones and the white metal all twinkly and bright.
