1930's/1940's Faux Coral Turtle Dress Clip (SOLD)
Here we have a quirky little chap from the 1930s or 40s. It is a turtle or tortoise (I'm not sure which) made out of casein to imitate coral. Casein is a milk based plastic from the Bakelite era which was used a lot to make buttons, buckles and costume accessories in the depression and world war two period. This piece of jewelry has been hand carved and has superb detailing from the head to the tip of the tail. This piece is fitted with a dress clip fastening rather than a brooch or pin. Dress Clips are a versatile piece of jewellery designed to clip over a sweetheart neckline, in the 'v' of a blouse or frock, fasten onto a hatband or the lapel of your coat of jacket . This wonderful vintage costume jewellery item is perfect for your early plastic collection or vintage wardrobe. Our little friend measures approx 4.5 by 2.5 cms.
