1930's Carved Bone Rose Dress Clip - Small White Rose with Green Leaves
Here is a delightful small dress clip dating from the 1930s. It is made of bone which has been handcarved into an ivory coloured rose with deep detail to make each petal. With a colour wash of green and brown over the leaves and stem this Rose is ready to be worn and enjoyed . Measuring an inch by almost half an inch deep the rose dress clip has a white metal back clip with little prongs to hold the dress clip in place when worn. The back clip is good and tight and this 1930s dress clip would make a very pretty piece of jewellery to be worn on a vintage frock. A lot of hand carved antique jewelry was made of wood, bone, ivory and horn in Europe. There was a trend for this kind of work in the Black Forest and also Switzerland and Austria where skilled carvers would create the most naturalistic flowers. I think that this lovely little 1930s rose dress clip comes from one of these areas.
Dress Clips are a really versatile piece of vintage costume jewellery. If you would like to know more about other ways to wear and enjoy vintage dress clips do take a look at 'How to Wear Those Dress Clips' which is on this website in the 'Information and In the Press Section'.
