WMF Buckle - Ostrich Mark - Silver Plated - Jugendstil Design- Circa 1903 to 1910

This stylish silver plated buckle dates to the early years of the 20th Century and sports the WMF Ostrich mark which was only in use between the years 1903 and 1910 according to a respected hallmark reference.  It has a classic Jugendstil design which is what you would expect from the workshops of this famous German maker - Wűrttembergische Metallwarenfabrik. Essentially a round buckle, it is enhanced with stylised angled squares to the top and bottom edge, has a hammered decoration and lines along the outer edge and within a shield shaped oval to the centre. The  construction gives it a stand out 3D look. It is a superb piece of jewellery and it would sit well on a soft leather belt. For fixing to fabric the reverse has three solid bars and a tongue piece which could be inserted directly into a slot made on the belt to hold it in a perfect position. This designer buckle is a statement piece and it measures approximately 7cms in diameter and to help you gauge this there is a £2 coin in one of the photos.  It has a good solid feel to it and is in good condition with a perfect patina built up over more than a hundred years which you would expect on antique jewellery and buckles of this age.
