WEC Sterling Silver Hairslide - Engraved 'WEC' (SOLD)
Here we have an antique hairslide in sterling silver dating from 1890 - early 1900s. It is a simple barette design consisting of a bar with rounded ends in plain sterling silver. The hair slide has been engraved with the initials WEC so it must have been a special and personal gift. I think this antique hair ornament is American as there is no full hallmark just the word 'Sterling' marked on it. The silver hair slide measures 2 inches by half an inch and is in very good condition. It has light surface scratches and a patina which you find with old and antique silver jewellery but it could easily be cleaned up to a shining finish if this was preferred. The back of the hair slide has a niftly two pronged device on a good secure hinge with a hooked retainer at either end. This would make a good addition to a collection of hairslides, barettes, hair combs and other hair ornaments or could be at home in a collection of Victorian silver name brooches and related sentimental jewelry. I am often asked for Christening and Communion presents or gifts suitable for small bridesmaids. If the initials of the recipient are WEC this would be ideal!
