Vintage Stratton Powder Compact with Lipstick Holder Within. Rare Item - 1950s (SOLD)
Here is an example of a combination powder compact and lipstick within one smart, luxurious box. This is a rare piece from Stratton being manufactured in 1958 and according to my sources only available for that year. The design in known as the 'Grosvenor' and it keeps the lipstick within the compact. Other combination lipstick and compact ranges from Stratton, namely the 'Lipstick Empress' had the lipstick accessible from the outside of the case. The Stratton Lipstick Empress had a long production run from 1956 until 1972 so is more common. Back to our most upmarket 'Grosvenor' shaped compact. Well the design printed on top is one of jewels in a cold enamelled finish, rubies, sapphires and emeralds are there in cabouchon shapes in golden flowers reminiscent of Indian Moghal jewels. The compact has a very high gold plated finish to it which is smooth to the sides and then to the reverse it has an engine turned decoration which is reminiscent of paisley printed fabric so I can definitely feel a connection to the lovely riches from the Indian continent. This is opulent and glamorous and would have been very expensive when new. The Stratton Grosvenor comes in its original black fabric case pouch which closes with a snap fastener. Within the body of the combi compact there is the powder guard compartment with the Stratton 'Compact in Hand' logo which shows that the lid for this section will simply pop up when the main lid is pressed backwards. There is also the original powder puff, again with the famous Stratton 'Compact in Hand' logo and sieve. Unusued this item is in Excellent vintage condition. Dimensions are 84 mm x 70 mm x 18 mm. The ultimate in luxury compacts from the 1950s could be yours to own or to gift to someone who will enjoy owning a most sought after item from the famous British Stratton brand.
