Vintage Clutch Purse of Evening Bag 1950s - 1960s Sequins and Beads in a Trellis Pattern
This evening purse dates from the late1950s into the early 1960s. It has a background pattern made up of small sequins which themselves are held in place by tiny round pearlised glass beads. Using yet more of these tiny round pearlised beads in a loop like way there is a trellis pattern covering the bag with rows of beads worked in a chevron pattern around the frame area . This pattern of beadwork completely covers both sides of the bag. During the 1950s and 1960s beadwork evening bags were imported into the UK from Hong Kong when it was part of the British Empire. This evening purse is also a good size being approximately 5 inches by 10 inches. It fastens with a gilt kissing clasp which can fold in to make the bag into a clutch purse. There is a good, robust gold tone snake chain handle, which is 12 inches long in total. The interior which is cream satin, has a pocket to hold a mirror. This vintage bead work bag is in excellent, clean condition with only the tinest of black marks where the hinge has touched the frame over the 50 plus years it has been around. Its creamy colour and the rich, deep beading would make it very suitable for a bride or to use for balls and parties. Handbags of this quality are often chosen by collectors of vintage handbags and purses to use as decorative items as well as handbags, perfect to display in your bodouir and dressing room.
