Vintage Bakelite Buckle - 1930s - 1940s - Art Deco - Apple-juice Yellow
This genuine Bakelite or phenolic resin buckle is one which you thread your belt through and it can be retained in position by the moving 'tongue' attachment. This is a useful and practical dress accessory which is still fashionable almost a hundred years after its manufacture. This interesting buckle dates to the Art Deco 1930s or 1940s period and is rectangular in shape. It has a slash cut design on it with angled cuts making a dramatic Art Deco design statement to each of the longer sides flanking the tongue. The colour is a glorious golden deep amber yellow known by Bakelite collectors as "Apple juice". The opaque nature of this material allows for a colour change depending on the background fabric; light textiles will give a stronger yellow and darker fabrics a more amber colour. This buckle is offered in really great order and it is certainly a statement accessory measuring 2.5 inches by 2 inches and with a thickness of about half a millimetre.
