Vintage 1960's Sarah Coventry Gilt Brooch with Cultured Pearl (SOLD)
Signed Sarah Coventry brooches has super designs and are really very wearable indeed! This smart pin is a gilt stylised leaf spray set with a cultured pearl and a tumble-polished green gemstone. Signed on the reverse, it measures approx 4cms/1.5 inches in diameter. It fastens with a secure roll-over safety clasp. It would look great on a tweed jacket!
THE SARAH COVENTRY JEWLLERY BUSINESS
Sarah Coventry jewellery was named after - Sarah- the granddaughter of Charles H. Stuart, the founder of the Company and the place the family originally came from - Coventry. It was established in the USA in 1949 and is recognized as the oldest direct selling jewelry company in the world. Most of their jewellery was produced in the USA but they also worked in Canada.
The company introduced jewellery to the UK in 'Party Plan' sales a bit like the classic Tupperware approach. You can just imagine how exciting it would have been back in the 1960's to get dressed up and go along to see all the lovely costume jewellery and choose a treasure to buy and wear. As far as I can establish the Sarah Coventry Company continued to run the Party Plan jewellery sales until the 1970's.
