Vintage 1930's 1940's Bakelite Carved Rose Brooch with Leaves
This fab brooch from the 1930s - 1940s has been hand carved from Bakelite and is extremely detailed and lifelike. The rose has the remains of red paint on it so I would guess that originally it was a 'red rose brooch'. Now, with only flecks of the original red remaining and with the glowing amber coloured bakelite showing through, it has the effect of a natural two coloured bloom. There is a little stem and leaves which are painted faded green and brown and this sets the flower off perfectly. Measuring just 3.5cms by 2cms the brooch fastens with a 'c' type clasp - both the pin and clasp have been screwed into the back which is typical of vintage brooches from this era. This original deep carved bakelite rose would appeal to collectors of bakelite era and early plastic jewellery.
