Vauxhall Mirror Glass Hair Pin Early 19th Century
Hairpins were worn to hold elaborate hair styles in place during the whole of the 19th Century. It was important for these hair ornaments to be pretty and decorative too. This hair pin is made of brass coloured metal with enamel work. The enamel design is worked in black and white as a circle of leaves in a petal arrangement with their centres showing through in aged brass metalwork. In the middle of this is a daisy type flower made up of a central jewel and eleven individual shaped petals all in Vauxhall mirror glass work. The hair ornament is one which is on a hinged swivel allowing it to sit perfectly in the hair. Two pins, or prongs, fix the piece in place. This hair pin dates to the early part of the 19th Century so is a genuine antique. Offered in very good condition with just a few signs of age, this hair pin measures 4.5 inches in length with the decorative top being 1.5 inches in diameter.
