Sterling Silver Lace Bobbin - 1970s English Lacemaking Tool
This is a very unusual lacemakers tool being a Sterling Silver Bobbin. It is exactly the same as the more usual kind of lace bobbins which are often made of turned wood, bone or aluminium.it has the look of the antique bobbins from the 19th century but was hallmarked in London in 1976 so is technically vintage with the look of an older antique bobbin. It has been crafted to look like a bamboo or turned wooden piece and has a nice collection of "spangles" with a contrast between the square glass and round Sterling Silver beads to its top. The square beads are in green, blue and amethyst pressed glass with textured surfaces just like those on Victorian Lace Bobbins. The condition of the silver lace bobbin is very good. This lace bobbin measures 5 inches in length and has a decent weight. If you are a lace maker you could use this bobbin to actually make pillow lace. If you are a collector of sewing tools and lace bobbins this could be for you.
