Sterling Silver Articulated Red Eyed Snake Bracelet in the Victorian Style(Sold)

With his detailed engraved head and little real garnet eyes this silver snake bracelet is a great copy of those 19th Century antique bracelets so loved in the Victorian period.  The use of snakes and serpents in jewellery goes back thousands of years. There has always been a romantic message conveyed by snake jewellery when the tail is clasped inside the mouth or crosses over to make a circle. This 'circle' was seen as a symbol of eternity.  This superb silver snake bracelet is of the highest quality and has been beautifully made with a good strong flexible bracelet which has a steel core to ensure it is robust and continues to flex perfectly.  This means that it can just slips over the hand to sit on the wrist with its tail crossed over or slide higher up the arm, Cleopatra style!  In excellent condition, this vintage bracelet is English bearing a full set of hallmarks for Birmingham  (Anchor) Sterling SIlver ( the Lion) a letter 'M' for the year 1986 and the maker's initials 'JB'.
