SOLD. Victorian Silver Name Brooch - MAMIE - Hallmarked Birmingham 1887
Mamie is quite an unusual name and is one I always associate with Mamie Eisenhower who was the American first lady from1953–61, the wife of Dwight “Ike” Eisenhower, 34th president of the United States. Well this little pin's history goes back further than that because it was manufactured in Birmingham, England in 1887 by Henry Cook in the Jewellery Quarter. It is clearly marked with the H.C maker's mark and the lion passant for Sterling SIlver, the Anchor which indicates that is was assayed in Birmingham and a gothic lower-case 'n' for the year 1887. So our Mamie Name pin is a English Silver Victorian Name Brooch. It is a small size being 1.5 inches by half an inch at its longest and widest points. This silver name pin is rectangular in shape and has elaborate,engine-engraved designs around the name. ' MAMIE' is engraved in block capital letters and the brooch is further enhanced with applied ball decorations - 3 to the centre of each edge of the brooch - one large ball flanked by two smaller balls. To the reverse we have a silver pin with a guarded end and the piece is clearly hallmarked at one end. This Victorian name brooch is in very good condition all round.JEWELLERY DETAILS
