SOLD Spider Brooch - 1930s Amber Crystal Jewels
Here is a huge vintage spider brooch which dates to the 1930s. The spider is made up of two oval jewels which have the appearance of natural amber. There is a large oval glass crystal for the body which measures approximately 3cms by 2 cms and a smaller crystal jewel for the head measuring approx. 2 cms by 1.5 cms. The jewels are both facet cut with gold foiling to the reverse to reflect the light. The large jewel is a darker golden amber colour with the head a contrasting softer yellow amber colour. The spider sits, holding on with his eight legs, on an open metal frame with a little gilt leaf at either end of the design. This is a very bold brooch being 4 inches long and measuring 1 inch across at the middle tapering to a little under half an inch at each end. The metal is probably tombac with a gilded layer ontop of the metal. The pin on the reverse is very long and covers the length of the brooch making it suitable to hold an edge to edge cardigan or fasten a shawl or wrap. The pin has an old fashioned 'safety pin' guard to secure the brooch in place. A nice old spider brooch which looks antique and is offered in good order.
