SOLD Antique Edwardian 1920s Necklace -Mother of Pearl Oriental Carved Necklace Bird & Butterfly
This is an outstanding example of an Antique Mother of Pearl Carved Pendant Necklace dating to the early years of the twentieth Century - the English Edwardian period through to the 1920s. That said, I would think the necklace is oriental in origin maybe Chinese or Japanese and if not hailing from the Orient then it is definitely in an oriental style. The necklace is made of 17 individual flat oval lozenge shaped beads linked together with round silver links. Suspended from these is a statement oval pendant hand carved with a beautiful bird hovering over a bowl of flowers to one side and a Butterfly hovering over blossoms and leaves to the other - so its two necklaces in one! The blue carved panels are stunning. The mother of pearl appears to be deep dyed to an iridescent turquoise blue colour. I have seen similar on buttons and buckles of the period. The pendant piece measures almost 6cms at the longest point by 4cms across. Each small lozenge is 2cms by 1cm and the silver chain loops between these are all 1cm. The necklace measures approx 58 cms on its inside edge and fits over the head as there is no opening clasp. The Oriental Antique necklace is shown displayed to show both sides of the pendant in detail in the photos so you can appreciate how lovely it is!
