Sold A Scottish Skara Brae Sterling Silver Pendant
Here we have a dramatic Sterling silver pendant. This classic Celtic silver pendant was influenced by stonework at Skara Brae. It has striking similarities to the work of the famous Orkney Silversmith Ola Gorie but the silver hallmarks on it are worn so I cannot see if her makers mark is on it. Skara Brae is a stunningly preserved stone age village on Orkney's west coast. Preserved for millennia under shifting sand dunes, details including enigmatic rock symbols are as crisp as they were carved. Apparently it is one of the most visited ancient sites in Europe and also reported as one of the most remarkable.
This interesting vintage sterling silver pendant has been finished with a dark acid etching which gives the dramatic black background in this design. I have left this piece uncleared but if the new owner wishes it to be really shiny a silver cloth would add instant shine. The Skara Brae pendant is in great condition. This Silver Pendant measures approximately 4.5cms by 3.25cms and has a good solid chunky feel to it. It is good quality and has a design that is ancient yet has appeal in modern times. These is a smooth surface to the reverse of this silver brooch where the item has many hallmarks upon it: but these strikes are worn and I simply cannot decipher them. I am fully confident that this is a Sterling Silver piece of very high quality. This silver Celtic pendant has a self loop to its centre top making it easy to slide it on and off of your own silver chain, torque or ribbon.
