SOLD 1950s Pendant Necklace - Handpainted Lady in Picture Hat by TLM (sold)
This 1950s Pendant is a handpainted portrait of a lady in a picture hat. The portrait has been mounted under domed glass like a beautiful miniature. The pendant is the work of Birmingham based jewellers Thomas L. Mott and is marked on the reverse with their trademark - TLM in an Artist's Palette and the words ' Made in England'. The Paintresses from this factory used paintbrushes with only one or two fine hairs to carry out their art. The resulting miniatures are very detailed. Now here we have a very pretty blonde haired young woman. Her clothing is exquisitely painted. The hat is decorated with large blue and white ostrich plumes. The hairstyle, gown, and hat all evoke the Restoration-Cavalier era. This lovely item of vintage costume jewellery has a gold coloured metal mount with a stepped decorative bead and dash style border and gold coloured chain. The chain fastens with a bolt ring clasp which has a rubbed mark on it, I would expect it to be gold plated or possibly rolled gold. The chain itself measures 20 inches and the oval pendant, suspended on it by a little triangular connector, is 1 inch by a little over 1 inch. It is in very good condition.
