SOLD Native American Hair Comb - Sterling Silver with Real Coral and Turquoise Decor
This hair ornament is Native American work and dates to circa 1960s. The Hair Comb itself is made of faux tortoiseshell plastic with a little give to enable it to be used with ease. To the top front of the comb a Sterling Silver bar has been applied in a naive manner - drilled holes with a pin each side to hold it in place. The silver bar is beautiful and has traditional hand-hammered decoration of small triangular lines and half moons. To the middle there are three real gemstones beautifully claw and cup set. There is a round tiny turquoise to represent the Sky and either side of this pretty turquoise sit coral gems which represent the Earth. This was likely a tourist piece but the hand made silver work and jewel setting is to be much admired. Light and easy this beautiful vintage hair comb is a most wearable example. There are fifteen individual tines or prongs on the hair comb to ensure this hair ornament will remain anchored when in place. This vintage hair comb measures 3.25 inches across and a tad under 2 inches down where the teeth are. This vintage silver jewel topped hair ornament is in good condition with just some light surface scratches commensurate with its age. I have left the cleaning to its new owner as some folks prefer bright and shiny and others love the patina that builds over time. This would make a fabulous addition to a collection of antique and vintage hair ornaments or to a collection of Native American jewelry. Light and wearable the silver topped hair comb would grace a pretty hair style too.
