Seagull Brooch Sterling Silver 1940s Vintage pin (SOLD)
Fabulous Seagull brooch in full flight with outstretched wings; beak open ready to grab a fish! This Gull pin has been made using a casting process and the sterlling silver brooch is really detailed with the flight feathers, tail and eye clearly defined. This vintage silver brooch would look very jaunty on a jacket lapel. This collectable brooch is English Sterling Silver and was fully hallmarked in Birmingham in the 1940s. There are details as indicated by the hallmarks of an anchor which confirms Birmingham as the Assay Office, the lion passant to show this is Sterling Silver ( 925/1000) and the letter 'W' to indicate that 1946 is the relevant year. There is a maker's mark of 'T & S' stamped on the back of the brooch. This is for Turner and Simpson, Birmingham silversmiths who first registered their makers' mark in 1912. His wing span is approx 7.5cms (almost 3ins) and he is approx 2 cms (.75 of an inch) at his widest point. The pin fastens with a rollover clasp. The brooch is in excellent condition, perfect as a gift or to add to a collection of 1940s brooches and jewels.
