Scarf Ring-1950s Aluminium - Raised ball circle on Mother of Pearl - Silver-tone
Here we have a pretty vintage scarf ring in a circular form. The outer edge of the vintage scarf clip consists of a pie crust type rim in silvery aluminium. Then there is a panel of creamy pearlised Lucite which looks very like Mother of Pearl. To the centre is a cluster of half balls arranged a three rows; the central circle being five, the next twelve and the third has sixteen. The central silvery design adds depth to the scarf and would have been the height of chic and modernity in its time - circa 1950. The scarf clip has a ring back and is made of silver tone anodised aluminium which is extremely light so very suitable for the purpose. Aluminium metal was first used in jewellery manufacture in the Victorian era and it was commercially in use for other things too during the 1860's. Boxes, jewellery and other tiny objects made from it were featured in the Paris Expositon Universelle for the first time in 1855. It also became a popular material for costume jewellery just after World War two and is often found used for necklace chains and bracelets from the late 1940s to the early 1960s. Measuring just 1.25 inches in diameter this scarf clip is in great condition.
