Rectangular shaped 1940's Lucite Brooch Carved with Flowers (SOLD)
This vintage rectangular shaped Lucite brooch has two open mauve flowers to the centre, flanked by two bright pink buds at either side, four white buds and six yellow green leaves decorating it. It is a little like looking into a kaleidoscope and is a very pretty pattern. The flowers and foliage have been reverse carved into the Lucite creating a floral picture. Dating from the late 1940s this old brooch is in very good condition and is a nice size of 1.5 inches by just over an inch by 3 eights of an inch thick. The edges on this vintage Lucite brooch have been bevelled at an angle to give a reflection all around, the so called ' rainbow rim' effect which is charming. It has a chrome pin with a guarded closure. This reverse carved Lucite brooch is in excellent condition and would be a special gift or a good addition to a collection of Bakelite era and early plastic jewellery.
This vintage pin is a great collectable for anyone interested in Bakelite era and early plastics . Lucite was Dupont's trade name for their acrylic plastic material which they patented in the 1930's and is usually the name given to brooches and pins of this type. The most common theme for them is flowers, some abstract and Art Deco in design, others very detailed - so you can tell exactly which flower is being depicted! Lucite brooches are see through so take on the colour of the item of clothing that they are pinned to. They look fresh and pretty on white and light colours and striking and dramatic on black and dark colours - How will you wear yours?
