Pair of Sterling Silver Shoe Buckles on Black Taffeta - 1930s (SOLD)
This is a pair of plain, hallmarked Sterling silver shoe buckles on their original black taffeta ribbon bows. Each buckle is rectangular in shape and measures 1.5 inches by 1 inch by one quarter of an inch approx. They are English and have a Birmingham hallmark (the Anchor) with the Lion Passant for 925 Sterling silver and the letter 'O' to indicate they were assayed in the year 1938. They also have a maker's mark 'HCF'. There are no claws or other fastenings on these lovely vintage buckles - they simply have the fabric threaded through them over a middle bar. This would make them suitable for other uses: they could adorn a hat band, be used for ribbon belt buckles or would look great on wide shoulder straps on a vintage dress or 1930's frock. As far as condition goes there is the gentle surface wear and small scratches that you would expect to find on antique and vintage silver jewellery and I have left the buckles for the owner to polish to their taste. Some folks prefer their antique and vintage silver accessories to be left with a little patina rather than looking like a bright and shiny piece of new jewelry! The price is for this lovely pair of vintage buckles.
