On hold Blue Forget-me-knot Flower Vintage Brooch - 1940s Lucite - Very Chunky Deep-Carved Brooch
In a sweet, neat square shape but designed to be worn at a jaunty angle is this blue Forget-me-knot flower pin. Here we have a really nice example of reverse carved Lucite jewellery. Dating from the 1940's - its possibly a sweetheart brooch due to the flowers depicted on it. So this lovely brooch would have been hand-carved, from the reverse, in an intaglio style. It features the pretty little blue flowers (15 in total) with four lovely tobacco yellow green leaves. The colours on this brooch have held well but there is the slight fading on the leaves. The flower heads are a gorgeous blue. This pin is a great collectable for anyone interested in Bakelite era and early plastics . Lucite was Dupont's trade name for their acrylic plastic material which they patented in the 1930's and is usually the name given to brooches and pins of this type. The most common theme for these lucite brooches is floral, some abstract and Art Deco in design, others very detailed - so you can tell exactly which flower is being depicted! This is a nice size being 4 cms square with a nice 1cm thickness to the brooch. The whole thing gets a kind of 'rainbow rim' reflection effect where some of the flower heads are reflected in the edges of the brooch. It has a chromed white metal pin back with a hooked type fastener, a little like those found on old tie pins. This lovely item of vintage costume jewelry is 'see through' so takes on a different look depending on the colour of your outfit, on a black dress it is dramatic, on a white frock it is fresh and pretty!
