On hold 1940s Cameo Brooch - early plastic on reverse carved Lucite
Here is a fantastic cameo-style brooch to wear for impact or to add to a collection of Bakelite era plastic jewellery and brooches. This brooch is a magnificent “ notice me” size of 3 inches by 2.25 inches. We have an oval press moulded plastic cameo of a classical lady wearing jewellery and a tiara. She is reminiscent of the popular carved Whitby jet jewellery that was much worn in the mid to late Victorian era. This black oval plaque is mounted on a larger slash carved clear Lucite oval. It’s magnificent! This vintage brooch is typical of the Nineteenth Century revival pieces that were worn in the late 1930s and early 1940s. This brooch is most likely from the USA as work and jewels of this kind were made and enjoyed there. Offered in very good condition this eye-popping brooch has a heat-set white metal pin inset to the reverse and closes with a simple ‘c’ type retainer. From the reverse side you can see the original old and very strong glue holding the black panel but this is not visible in the actual wearing of this truly amazing brooch.
