Ola Gorie Sterling Silver Brooch - Edinburgh 1977 -Skara Brae Ancient Design (sold)

Here we have a  dramatic Sterling silver brooch from Ola Gorie the famous Scottish silversmith working in Orkney. This classic Celtic brooch is one of her early designs in the jewellery range from the 1970s. This unusual Sterling Silver Brooch was influenced by stonework at Skara Brae. Skara Brae is a stunningly preserved stone age village on Orkney's west coast. Preserved for millennia under shifting sand dunes, details including enigmatic rock symbols are as crisp as they were carved. Aparently it is one of the most visited ancient sites in Europe and also reported as one of the most remarkable.
This interesting vintage sterling silver pin has been finished with a dark acid etching which gives the dramatic black background in this design.  The Skara Brae brooch is in Excellent condition. This Ola Gorie Siver Brooch measures approximately 4cms by 4 cms and has a good solid chunky feel to it. It has the quality you can expect from a world renowned award winning jeweller and a design that is ancient yet has appeal in modern times. These is a smooth surface to the reverse of this silver brooch where the item has the following hallmarks upon it: OMG for Ola M. Gorie ( Although the first letter 'o' is distorted as if not there) the letter C which dates it to 1977 , the Lion Rampant to show it is 925 Sterling Silver and the Castle which is the mark for Edinburgh where it was assayed. This silver Ola Gorie  Brooch fastens with a secure 'roll over' type clasp.
