Nicky Butler Jewelled Flower Costume Brooch - Butler and Wilson 1980s designer costume jewellery
This brooch is typical of the designer-signed jewellery that you see in all the best books about collecting antique and vintage costume jewellery. It is in mint condition and has the quality that you would expect from 1980s high end costume accessories . Although unsigned this piece was made by Nicky Butler of Butler and Wilson fame. A large sized statement piece, this pewter tone brooch is like an open flower set with facet cut lead glass crystals in three colours. The black glass stones which make up the central part are claw and pavé set. The centre is little larger than 2cms in diameter. Circling the middle are 11 navette shaped cut crystal pink jewels, perfectly spaced to make a Daisy-type flower. The stem is a curved row of 16 circular pale green jewels with two further navette shaped jewels in Emerald green placed as leaves. Vintage Brooches from the top makers were always hand assembled with every claw being shut by hand in much the same way that precious stones and diamonds are set. The diameter of the flower head on this vintage brooch is approx 4.75cms and in all it measures 9cms by almost 5cms at its longest and widest parts. The brooch fastens with a secure roll over type clasp and has a pewter tone finish . This brooch would be perfect to wear and would hold its own in a collection of signed and designed vintage jewellery. It has been particularly difficult for me to get the exact colours right in the photos but I am sure that this vintage costume brooch will delight who ever purchases it.
