Naval Crown Brooch or Pin - Vintage '935' Silver and real Marcasite (SOLD)
Here is a vintage silver and marcasite set brooch depicting a Naval Crown. This vintage crown pin may well have been a sweetheart brooch given by a sailor to his love. The Navy Crown was first used in Roman times and it depicts ship's sails and sterns cleverly arranged in a crown shape. This vintage brooch is made of 935 silver, a continental standard with fractionally more real silver in it than sterling silver. The only hallmark on this piece is the silver standard of '935' which means it was most likely made in continental Europe rather than being a silver brooch manufactured in the UK. The brooch is set with lots of bright cut, faceted natural marcasite stones in varying sizes. The brooch is in excellent condition with all stones present. This marcasite brooch measures 1 inch by half an inch approximately and is in excellent condition. It fastens with a secured roll over type clasp. This vintage silver brooch has been Rhodium plated also which means that the brooch will not need cleaning and will be resistant to tarnishing.
