Mikimoto Cultured Pearl Brooch - Sterling Silver - 1960s Flower Pin (SOLD)

Here we have a fabulous floral brooch by Mikimoto.  This pin is made of Silver and set with half a dozen creamy, lustrous cultured pearls.  The Japanese Company, Mikimoto, are the most celebrated of pearl jewellers. Mikimoto actually invented the technique for culturing pearls in the late 19th/Early 20th Century. I would estimate that this brooch dates from the 1960's because of the groovy five petalled flower design and the Company's use of etched surfaces to add depth and contrast to the silver petals. The pearls are arranged in a circular order on top of the brooch, with one pearl sitting on top of the other 5 - a little bit like the cherry on the top of a luscious cupcake!. this kind of 1960s floral design is really back in fashion again now so the Mikimoto Brooch has a nice contemporary feel to it as well.  It is neat and small a little over 1 inch in diameter with the cultured pearls measuring  approx 5 mm in diameter. A signed piece of jewellery, the flower pin has Mikimoto's 'M in a clam shell' mark along with an 'S' for Sterling Silver, clear to see on the reverse. The brooch fastens with a secure roll-over type clasp and it is in very good condition.  The photos show a tarnish mark which looks very dark in the picture.  It is less noticable in real life and it would be possible to get a quality jeweller to remove it and give the brooch a clean.
