Lucite Brooch with Two Pink Roses - French 1940s (SOLD)
This is a really unusual reverse carved Lucite brooch dating from the 1940's. It depicts two open rose blooms in pink which have been intaglio carved into a Lucite block. The block is then mounted , using four gilt corners, on a thinner Lucite panel which has also been carved with a dot and circle design all around the edge. This double mounted technique usually indicates that the piece originated in France. This pin is a great collectable for anyone interested in Bakelite era and early plastics . Lucite was Dupont's trade name for their acrylic plastic material which they patented in the 1930's and is usually the name given to brooches and pins of this type. The most common theme for them is flowers, some abstract and Art Deco in design, others very detailed - so you can tell exactly which flower is being depicted! This pink roses brooch is in excellent order and it measures approximately 4cms by 3cms with a thickness of 1.5cms. It fastens with an old fashioned 'c' type clasp and has been mounted on a brass pin back.
