LILLIAN WINIFRED - Edwardian Silver Name Brooch - dated Birmingham 1906
There are two names on this Edwardian sterling silver name brooch - “Lillian Winifred’. This pretty name is written out in fancy silver block capital letters applied to the real silver antique brooch to great effect. The bar brooch has been engraved with detailed markings, has two Forget Me Not flowers on it (for Love) and is a decorative shape too. Measuring 5cm in length and about 2cm at its widest point, this brooch finishes with an old fashioned 'c' type clasp - in common with Victorian and 19th Century brooches and pins. The ‘C’ clasp has been re soldered but is firm and functional. It has the full Hallmark for Birmingham (the Anchor), the lion passant to show that it is sterling silver and the letter ‘g’ for the year 1906; there is also the maker's mark 'WL’ for William Light whose workshop was in Augusta Street, Birmingham. It has a good antique patina, built up over the almost hundred and twenty years it has been in existence. I never over-clean antique brooches as collectors often want their Victorian or Edwardian jewellery to look as if it has some age! This would clean up bright and shiny with a silver cleaner if you wanted it to look like new!
