Knitted Purse on metal frame - Small size 1900 to 1920s

Knitted purses dating to the first quarter of the 20th Century are always so sweet. This little example is obviously hand made using a white metal frame. The fabric, which has a bit of stretch to it, has been created in black and grey contrasting threads and there are two distinct patterns. The exterior is worked in stripes in a "brick-wall" effect and the interior central panel also uses stripes but with a thin band of black complemented by a wider band with flecked pattern. Measuring a dinky 3 inches by 2.25 inches this purse is unusual in that it has two compartments to allow you to separate coins from folded notes or maybe to sort out coppers from silver. This old purse would also be perfect for keeping a key safe or to use as a holder for a little jewellery gift. It is in extremely good order with no holes or fading. The metal frame fastens with a triple ball style "kissing clasp" .
