Faux Ivory Celluloid Bangle with open Roses and Daisies 1940s - 1950s
This is another beautiful example of a moulded and carved Celluloid bangle with lots of very detailed flower designs all over it. The main flower on this one is that old English favourite - The Rose. Not just one bloom either - there are four perfect open roses surrounded by detailed rose leaves and lots of cheerful open Daisies and smaller flowers, maybe forget-me-knots, in a repeating pattern. The Ivory colour is a true cream which enhances the deep floral detail. Measuring 2cms in width, the bangle inner has a diameter of about 7cms across approx. It is a little over 7.5cms if you measure across the outside of the bracelet. These bangles were mostly made from the late 1920s to the 1950s in Japan to imitate carved Ivory and have now become very collectable and increasingly difficult to find. Very often they are marked inside with the word 'Japan' if they pre-date World Ward Two or the word 'Foreign' (as is the case on this item) if they are from the later 1940s to the 1950s. They look delightful worn grouped together. How you group is entirely up to you. It works perfectly with other cellulloid bangles and bracelets, or with old bakelite bangles too! A contemporary look can be achieved with some new gold tone, sterling silver or maybe wood or acrylic plastic bracelets just for the fun of it!
