Celluloid Brooch - French Art Deco 1930s

Here we have a true Art Deco Brooch made of the early plastic Celluloid. The brooch is French and dates to circa 1930. This type of jewellery was often created for wearing on a hat as the material is very light . When for hats these jewels are known as "flashes" and have a single, unguarded pin to the reverse. This lovely design, which reminds me of an abstract bird in flight, has the benefit of a 'c' shaped closure making it not only suitable for a hat but useful on a lapel, blouse, dress or coat too. A dramatic effect is created by the inset glass jewels and the painted creamy white dot decoration. This pin is in fair to good condition but does show its age due to a slight discolouration of the glass jewels and the absence of one or two spots! A close-up photos is provided to detail this. In general this is a pretty and collectable piece of jewellery. Dimensions are 3 inches by just about a quarter of an inch.
