Celluloid Bangle in imitation Ivory circa 1930s - 1950s - Unusual with TULIPS! (SOLD)
Here we have a beautiful example of a Japanese moulded Celluloid bangle with lots of very detailed flower designs all over it. Many different flowers and leaves are depicted including the Chrysanthemum, Rose, cheerful open Daisies, small four petalled flowers, what appears to be part of an open Poppy (very art nouveau!) and best of all two Tulips! This makes it quite a rare find; I have collected and sold early Bakelite era plastic bangles for more than 20 years and I have never seen one with this flower pattern before. The Ivory colour is a true cream which enhances the deep floral detail. Measuring almost 2cms in width, the bangle has a diameter of 6.5 cms across approx. It is quite chunky too, so that it is a little over 7.5cms if you measure across the outside of the bracelet. I guess a medium in size. These amazing bangles were mostly made in Japan to imitate carved Ivory and have now become very collectable and increasingly difficult to find. They look delightful worn grouped together or with old bakelite bangles, or a mix of silver slim bangles.
