Bunch of Purple Daisy-Type Flowers all tied up in a Purple Bow! (SOLD)
This cheerful brooch shows a bunch of dark mauve michaelmas daisy-type blooms with knot-stitch yellow middles. The six flowers have mint green leaves and stems and are tied-up in a bunch with a violet coloured bow, this is a typical 1940's /1950's style, the kind of design that features on so many of the lovely hand-worked tablecloths, tray cloths and napkins of that time. The linen background is ivory in colour and the embroidery is somewhat naive and obviously done by hand. Measuring approximately 2.5 inches (6.5cms) by 1.75 inches (5cms) the work is mounted in a gilt metal oval shaped gallery with a rope edge pattern. There is a clear plastic front protecting the embroidery. The back has a secure rollover 'C' type clasp and pin mount. Embroidered and hand-made brooches were made in quantity during the 'make-do-and-mend' years of world war two and they remained popular throughout the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's. You could also buy kits with threads, pre-printed designs on fabric and the necessary mounts to complete your piece of jewellery. This would be lovely to wear or add to your collection of Vintage Flower pins or old needlework.
