Blue Russian Cane Glass Bead Necklace - Double Row Circa 1950s
This is a fabulous and unusual double row necklace dating from the 1950s. Here we have two rows of graduating beads culminating in and measuring just over 19 inches in length. The main beads are all a pastel blue colour. These glass beads are known as Russian Cane Beads - which means they were made from canes and rods of glass which have been worked and then cut and faceted on the corners. This technique is not exclusive to Russia, indeed these hand cut beads most probably originate from Czechoslovakia or Bohemia or even Italy. They have been spaced using tiny White Russian Cane spacer beads. The necklace is finished with a dramatic bright blue cabouchon on each side claw set in a gold plated metal from which there are more cane beads with circle spacers on one side and a golden hook the other to allow you to vary the length. The condition is excellent and the necklace measures 16.5 inches in total - wearing it can vary from choker to this full length .
