Art Nouveau Buckle set with Paste Jewels - Floral Design
This amazing floral paste buckle dates to the Edwardian period with its classic Art Nouveau design. The buckle has swirled flowers and leaves in an open style arranged around a central six petal open flower. Its outline follows the flowers, leaves and swirls which is a typical Art Nouveau feature. This antique buckle has 76 round white diamanté type crystal jewels in various sizes and 24 peridot green glass gems picking out the leaves on this antique buckle. It is perfect for spring with its buds, leaves and flowers. The layered construction gives it a stand out 3D look. It is a heavy, substantial piece of jewellery and it would sit well on a soft leather belt. For fixing to fabric it has two solid bars and a tongue piece which could be inserted directly into a slot made on the belt to hold it in a perfect position. This Art Nouveau buckle measures approximately 2.5 inches by 2.5 inches at its widest points with a step up of almost an inch from the tongue fixture to the highest point in the piece which is the sparkling central flower. It has a good solid feel to it and is in very good condition with just a little patina built up which you would expect on vintage and antique jewellery and buckles of this age. The metal looks very like silver to me but as it has no hallmarks it is sold as "white metal".
