Art Deco Russian Cane Glass Bead Necklace with Decorative Gilt Metal Spacers
This is a classic Art Deco necklace dating from the 1930s and measuring just over 19 inches in length. The beads are all pastel coloured - there are lemon, pink, green and blue. These glass beads are known as Russian Cane Beads - which means they were made from canes and rods of glass which have been worked and then cut and faceted on the corners. This technique is not exclusive to Russia, indeed these beads most probably originate from Czechoslovakia or Bohemia. They have been spaced using lovely decorative pressed metal bead cups and elongated findings finished in a gold plated metal. The condition is excellent and the necklace fastens with a twist clasp.
